FREEDOM TREE
FREEDOM TREE is a world jazz-rock ensemble based in Stockholm, Sweden. Formed in 2015, they quickly signed with Losen Records and have since released three albums and performed over hundreds of concerts across Europe. This "band of brothers" brings together three acclaimed musicians from three continents, each a leading figure in their own right.
Steinar Aadnekvam (Norway, guitar) plays in a tradition rooted in the lineage of legends such as John McLaughlin and Al Di Meola, and critics have hailed him as "a top-flight virtuoso" (World Music Report) and as "one of the most exciting guitarists in recent years" (Orkesterjournalen). Rubem Farias (Brazil, bass) is one of the most respected bassists of the Brazilian jazz scene. Now based in Sweden, he tours internationally with Freedoms Trio as well as with jazz luminaries including Mike Stern, Randy Brecker, and Dennis Chambers. Deodato Siquir (Mozambique, drums & vocals) is a fourth-generation musician and showman. Since moving to Scandinavia, he has become a leading figure in Afro-jazz and released several acclaimed solo albums. He has also collaborated extensively with musicians associated with the Joe Zawinul Syndicate, bringing elements of that legendary legacy into his performances.
In 2018, the band received a glowing endorsement from guitarist and Miles Davis alumnus Robben Ford, who praised their music as “complex and joyful… full of passion and energy… with a rare natural synergy…that gives you hope,” highlighting the vitality and promise of this band and thier unique brand of contemporary jazz.
With technical brilliance, global influences, and infectious energy, FREEDOM TREE continues to push the boundaries of jazz, rock, brazilian and african music inspiring audiences wherever they perform.
